Fox Glacier, Lake Matheson, West Coast

We had the longest drive so far from Queenstown to Fox Glacier. The roads here are good, but they have to make their way over mountain passes and rivers so they can’t be straight. We like to take the scenic routes as well.
The landscapes are overwhelmingly beautiful.

About an hour from Queenstown we came to a place called “Puzzle world” and Michel remembered that Jonas had talked about this, so in we went. It consisted of a labyrinth and a museum full of illusions, had a very NZ spirit, simple fun.

At ten in the evening we went into the forest at Fox Glacier to see the glow worms. It was better than Christmas light, millions of lights, Emil and Madeleine were a little spooked walking through the black forest… ok I was too.
So the morning after Emil and I took a morning run through it, to check out the gorillas we thought we saw ;)

The glacier walk was an hour walk towards the place where the ice comes down, it  was impressive, violent landscape as the ice takes huge rocks down from the mountain.

Before leaving the area we walked around Lake Matheson where you get beautiful reflections of Mount Cook.

Drove up the west coast, saw beautiful beaches, Louis and Madeleine had to get themselves wet, (they take after their grandmother) we also got acquainted with the mosquitos for the first time.

Now in Punakaiki, at Te Nikau retreat, recommended to us by Nadine, it looks very promising here, will tell you more next time.

Love from all of us
